The client is a department in NSW Government that collects payments from residents  via online, phone, Kiosk or in-person at its service centres. The incumbent platform was used by the agency had issues with stability, scalability and cost of ownership. There were 50 more agencies in the government duplicating the same work. The new platform is an omni-channel platform that works across all agencies providing an efficient service for residents and reducing costs for the government. 


Actions

  1. Create and drive strategy for the platform
  2. Drive the modernisation effort
  3. Formulate the business architecture and synchronously drive the digital product architecture with it
  4. Work with the Operations, Finance and Tech teams
  5. Mentor product managers to drive the product forward

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in conjunction with Grameen Foundation, were set to capitalize on the ubiquity of the mobile phones in Africa to improve the heath care. The MOTECH platform was developed to offer various health care services at scale across remote locations. The implementation of the solution was done in conjunction with the respective government and various partners.  


  1. The MOTECH Ghana Application is intended to improve maternal and child health care in Ghana across 100+ districts
  2. The MOTECH STEPS OVC mHealth Application is intended to handle health referral for Orphans and vulnerable children and HIV positive patients in Zambia

Work pass Platform for Ministry of Manpower, Singapore

Singapore Government published an open tender to modernise their ‘Foreign Worker’ work pass digital platform. The aim of the service it to build a user friendly, robust and reliable system, which creates a delightful experience for all users and reduce the need for employers to rely on third part intermediaries to perform work pass transactions.  This was a path-finder project for the government to be more agile in the future. It is a multi million-dollar program of work which involved  

  • Business process optimization

  • Infrastructure setup
  • Professional services for analysis, development and testing of work pass system
  • Integration with other government services
  • Security and penetration testing
  • Deployment services

A Supply chain platform for a global life sciences organisation

The client, a global biotech company is a leading supplier of protein research tools to life scientists. Their existing architecture was unable to scale to their growth. The intent of the program was to re-architect to a more scalable platform that will drive their growth over the years. In the process they also want to enable agility inside their organization. The existing systems were slowly strangulated and replaced with the more efficient solution. The goal of the new solution is to simplify and isolate functionality to build a more intuitive and resilient solution. 


Key products in the platform included:

  • Order Fulfilment
    • Automate the business process, to group the orders, pick the products, pack the goods and dispatch them. It involved integration with other internal systems like Order Management System, Stock System and third party system like FedEx.
  • Stock Management
    • A solution to store and retrieve the life sciences production in a fashion that will facilitate quicker dispatch of orders
  • Supply Chain
    • This project involved developing a solution to facilitate optimal ordering of stock based on their expiry, sales, price and transfer restrictions with multiple OEM suppliers. It also included movement stock across multiple stocking offices.

A digital platform to reduce cost of assurance in a Telco, Australia

A large Telco was struggling to keep the cost of service assurance down. Between issues with the service, natural disaster and emerging technologies, the contact centres were overflowing with angry customers. To compensate, they were providing credits to the customers. A single call costed them approximated $8 and the cost increases to $20 when escalated. The aim of this self service platform was to deflect calls from the contact centre. 


There were four key products under the platform

  1. Service Issues
  2. Outages
  3. Speed Issues
  4. Faults

Public sector organisations operate under a different pressure and constraints than private sector. The client is an executive agency within a government department that was positioned as a one-stop access to government services for citizens. The CEO wanted to transform their organisation into a modern, customer-focused agency that operates as a startup within the government. Their issues were:

  1. Time to market: It took teams close to 15 months to launch any new product
  2. Structure: The teams were formed for projects and disappeared after the project finished
  3. Accountability: The products were all outsourced to vendors (30+) with no accountability or ownership of the outcomes

The organisation was transformed into a modern, product-centric organisation with close to 20 product teams in 2 years launching features every week.
